'The Dampkring' is well known by many as the most famous coffeeshop in Amsterdam and for that matter probably the world!
Now you can frequent the Dampkring and enjoy the same cosy atmosphere in a brand new Coffeeshop on the Haarlemmerstraat very close to Amsterdam's Central train station. The New Dampkring Coffeeshop is a completely different concept in architectural design and colour compared to her bigger sister in the Handboogstraat, but she retains the same famous friendly service and a great range of juices, snacks, fantastic expresso, tea and of course world famous 'coffee'. The New Dampkring design does well to capture a real feeling of the old meeting the new. Of course the outside of the building is a traditional Amsterdam style and dates back to the 18th century. The building is situated on a corner of 2 streets and huge glass windows surround the lower floor on both sides letting in lots of natural sunlight and giving the place a bright fresh feel. Inside the theme is much more modern with an original old brick wall giving way to lots of chrome and steel, hi-tech video installations and special effects lighting, giving a more industrial feel over-all. The colour scheme is tasteful with a rather dark and earthy theme of greens and blacks. The music system is second to none and channels a selection of great tunes through a top of the range speaker system.
